Food, water and power. Towards earth our Shelter

Cities are central to civilisation, and yet they are fragile entities vulnerable to the stresses brought about by climate change. It is therefore important to consider cities in relation to the provision of their basic needs-food water and power.Sustainable development in the name of mitigating climate change is top of the political agenda at a global scale, however Climate poses uncertainties. A common indicator of climate stress is what we know as the urban heat Island effect, take the UK for example, “London on average is the hottest part of the UK”[1]. The reasons beyond this are not so much measured by the degree but by the properties of the materials used in modern day construction, these materials retain the warmth of the day and release this heat very slowly during the night, this man made micro-climate in effect is contributing to climate change on a global level yet locally implications are seen as immediate and rich in complexity.

"We are calling, instead, for a revolution in the way we source our energy. We want the UK to meet its target for 15% of its energy supply to come from renewable sources by 2020"Calling for a revolution
